Running Shoes for Heavier Runners by Mr. Wing

Thanks for reading my article about running shoes for a larger, heavier runner . Being a heavier runner myself (I currently weigh 230 lbs), I have always found it difficult to find the correct running shoe. Some are too light and don't support my larger frame. Some don't fit how your feet land, either outside or inside. (This is called pronation). Some runners overpronate and some runners underpronate. Here is the definiton as defined by Runnersworld.

Pronation is the inward (medial) roll of the foot and in particular the heel and arch which occurs naturally at the heel strike as a cushioning mechanism.

Overpronation is when the feet roll inward too much.

Supination, also known as underpronation, is the opposite to pronation where the feet don't roll inward enough. Wearing the wrong type of shoe will lead to painful shins and joints, or even injury.

It is easy to see if you are a under or overpronator. Just look at your shoes!!! A pronator's outer soles wear down along the inside of the ball of the foot and they tend to have flat feet. The supinator's outer soles wear down along the outer edge and their feet tend to have high arches. Shoes are designed with features to control these problems. So now we have the first thing you need to know when looking for running shoes. Are you a over or under pronator.

Next, if you are a heavier runner, you want to find shoes that are motion controlled. This is best for a heavier runner. The 4 best brands of motion controlled shoes are Brooks, Saucony, Asics and New Balance running shoes. My personal favorite is the Brooks Beast. I found this shoe to be the best for my body frame. Its a heavier shoe that has cushion and very durable for a larger runner like me. Brooks Ariel is the woman's version of the Brooks Beast.

So the next time you are looking for the correct running shoe for a larger, heavier runner , make sure you know if you are a under or over pronator, and make sure the shoes are motion controlled.

Essential Guide to Men's Trail Running Shoes by Mithran

We've combed through our search engine to produce a list of top of the line men's trail running shoes. Make sure you're getting the best shoes for your body frame, feet, and adventure. A few of the best reviewed trail running shoes include the Brooks Cascadia 4, New Balance 840, Adidas Supernova Riot, END Stumptown 12 oz, and the waterproof Salomon XT Wings GTX. From our list the New Balance 840 and the Stumpton are the cheapest in price (roughly $70-$85); higher on the price scale is the Salomon XT ($140-$160).

The Brooks Cascadia 4 has been deemed a Top Trail Running shoe by men and editors of athletic magazines. The Cascadia is available in both men and women's styles and comes in a wide range of colors. The Cascadia was released in February of this year and the model will be discontinued this December. The next model will debut in February 2010. Features of the Cascadia include a BioMoGo midsole that is comfortable and durable. The outsole grips the ground easily, and handles slippery surfaces well. We did find that many reviewers found this shoes laces to come loose too easily.

If you need a durable water and moisture proof shoe, consider the Salomon XT Wings GTX. Unlike the Cascadia, the single pull laces stayed tied as your hit the trail. The outer portion of the shoe is crafted out of Gore-Tex lining and the shoe is ideal for hard terrain, snow, and pavement. The Salomon is also crafted out of the lightest, yet most durable, waterproof materials that will protect your feet from the slightest of moisture.

The Salomon is a bit expensive, but you can find peace of mind in the New Balance 840. The New Balance 840 is easy on your feet but performs hard on the trail. The 840 doesn't offer a lot of cushion, but that's okay if you don't require extra padding. The 840 has a seamless upper, and reviewers found the seamless upper to deter your feet from getting blisters. Because this shoe lacks all of the extra bells and whistles of expensive trail running shoes, the 840 is perfect for individuals who need a basic durable running shoe.

The END Stumptown 12 oz trail running shoe is made of recycled products. Some of the key features of the Stumpton are its trail radius regrind outsole and co-molded protection plate. The breathable upper allows supreme ventilation for your feet, and the shoes are lightweight and flexible. The Stumpton is ideal for the trail runner, outdoorsman, and adventure seeker.

For the best motion control trail running shoe look to the Adidas Supernova Riot. Men have proclaimed the Supernova to have excellent traction on both uphill and downhill walks and runs. The toebox portion of the shoe has plenty of room, so don't worry about your toes being cramped together. The Supernova is a powerhouse of technology; the shoe features technology such as adiPRENE cushioning, Traxion outer soles, Pro Moderator medial support, and ForMotion design. Basically, this shoe is the icing on the cake.

Because many of these shoes were introduced at the beginning of the year you may find these shoes for lower prices. Each model's follow up shoe comes out at the beginning of 2010 which makes it easier for you to score a great deal on awesome trail running shoes.

The Brief History of Nike Shoes by Alice

Nike shoes have various styles and colors. They can be worn by professionals and daily walkers who like to make a fashion statement. You can easily find Nike stores in your area. The Nike swoosh logo has been considered as one of the most recognized company logos in the world now.

This special logo was originally designed in 1971 by a student who studied graphic design at Portland State University. They paid the girl only $35 for the fabulous design but some sources also say that Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike, later gave her a diamond ring engraved with the logo she designed as well as an unknown amount of Nike stock. It is interesting that Knight was not very impressed with her work the first time, like what he said, "I don't love it, but it will grow on me."

Today, there have been more than 30,000 people employed by Nike around the world. Nike also provides other sports gear besides shoes. The company is under some scrutiny recently for the issues concerned with human rights and poor working environment. Official statistic shows that only in 2008, Nike has made a net income of approximate $1.9 billion dollars. The name Nike comes from the Greek goddess of victory. As a matter of fact, like many other famous companies, Nike also had a humble condition at the beginning. All of the original founders are used to be athletes and they have been running it for more than 50 years till now.

In fact, the duo first sold the shoes manufactured by a Japanese factory but in very short time they ended the relationship with the Japanese company in 1971. Afterwards, they started to improve their own line of footwear made mostly for football and decided to call it the name Nike. Soon they developed much more lines of shoes. With the development of technique and management, by 1980, abound 50% of shoes sold in the United States had carried the Nike brand. The headquarters the Nike company still locates in Oregon now and owns several subsidiaries such as Umbro and Converse.
